Membership

The DAR is a volunteer women’s service organization that honors and preserves the legacy of our patriot ancestors by actively promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing our future through better education for children.

Who is eligible for membership?

Any woman, 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

How is patriot defined?

DAR recognizes as patriots not only soldiers, but also any person, male or female, who contributed to the cause of American freedom. Your ancestor may already be recognized by the DAR as the patriot ancestor of one of the more than 900,000 members admitted since its founding in 1890. Do you have a Revolutionary patriot in your family tree?

Search the DAR Ancestor Database. Find your patriot, the service performed, spouse, descendants.
